It's no secret that we love yarns around here, from the ridiculous superhero blanket I made a couple of years ago, to the range of patterns my step-daughter Rosie has designed from scratch after learning to crochet and being frustrated that none of the toy patterns appealed.
The last year has been one of changes, and reflections, leading to Debbie leaving nursing, and careful consideration about her future. She has always wanted to run a shop, and many times over the last few years the three of us have had the 'if we had a yarn shop' conversation. And so, Woolfull was born.
We found some premises nearby, and got to work. We changed ceiling tiles, stripped walls, painted and built new furniture, all whilst ordering supplies, signs and umming and aahing over yarns. Yarn delivery days were very exciting, and planning the layout, order and position of all our beautiful yarns was a lovely process.
We wanted to be a little different here, we wanted to have a little more than the usual yarn shop, and stock some of the yarns which are rarer around here (such as the gorgeous Caron Cakes, or Bernat yarns - honestly they are so soft and so nice it's a real shame more people in the UK haven't seen them).
We deliberately decided to have grey and white shelves and cupboards, and go for a light and airy feel, as so many yarn shops are dark or cluttered. We also wanted to make sure we cater to crocheters as well as knitters, so we have an even split between crochet hooks and knitting needles, and the best yarns for either craft.
We were very determined to make sure that our online experience was good, and that everything available in our shop was also available on our website, after a fair few late nights we have now got everything up and running.
Three weeks ago we opened the doors of our little yarn shop, based in the heart of the Hope Valley.
We thought it was high time there was a wool shop around here, as the nearest one is a 20 min drive away. We opened on Yarn Shop Day, and had a great response from people who wanted to come check us out. I can honestly say we have loved every day since.
